Arrest in Levice: man approved of attack on prime minister
On Friday, police intervened at Heroes' Square in Levice, where one of the stops of the Hnutie Slovensko summer event series was taking place. Officers detained and charged a 57-year-old participant of the event.
During a discussion, the man loudly expressed agreement with the actions of Juraj Cintula, who shot at the prime minister last May. The perpetrator has already definitively begun serving a twenty-one-year sentence for attempted murder of the prime minister.
According to reports from the SME.sk portal, the man was detained whilst under the influence of alcohol. Nevertheless, he now faces a charge of approving a terrorist attack, for which he risks imprisonment.
The event, titled Whoever is Wiser Wins, is organised by movement leader Igor Matovič. In addition to distributing food vouchers, the event also features discussions about the political situation. Advertising for the event on the internet contains calls for the removal of the Smer party from politics.
