A Bratislava woman became addicted to drugs during the pandemic. To pay for doses, she stole money from others. After treatment, she found work in a care home for the elderly.

Bratislava native Karolína Brunová lived for two years in the grip of severe addiction. During the pandemic, she tried cocaine for the first time. Even then, she suspected it would not end with a single occasion.
As she described it for the portal Aktuality.sk, her daily consumption gradually rose to two to three grammes of the drug combined with alcohol. This lifestyle devastated her personal finances and her job in gastronomy.
To be able to continue using, she began stealing money from others. She became indebted and suffered from insomnia lasting several days. Despite this, she managed to pretend for a long time to those close to her that everything was fine.
A decisive turning point came when she confided in her family. They supported her in seeking professional help. After completing treatment, Brunová returned to a normal life. She currently works in a facility for the elderly.
Today she speaks openly about her experiences. According to her words, drug addiction never completely leaves a person, but it is possible to reach a state of remission. She made her story public with the aim of highlighting that an experiment can quickly turn into addiction, but a way back exists.
