16-year-old detained on suspicion of sexual assault of bedridden woman in Rijsdijk
A 16-year-old boy was detained on Saturday on suspicion of sexual assault involving a 60-year-old bedridden woman in Rijsdijk. Juvenile affairs has taken over the investigation.
Juvenile suspect arrested following sexual assault on vulnerable woman
A daughter discovered a 16-year-old boy partially undressed on the bed of her bedridden mother in the Rijsdijk area last Friday when she returned home. The Suriname Police Corps reported this via Waterkant.
The minor fled the moment the daughter raised the alarm and called for help. Rijsdijk police immediately launched a neighbourhood search to locate the fleeing suspect.
The investigation led officers to an address in the nearby vicinity, where the boy was arrested in the early morning of Saturday, 26 September 2026. He is suspected of involvement in a sexual assault on the 60-year-old woman.
Following consultation with the Surinamese Public Prosecutor's Office, the suspect was remanded in custody. Due to his age, the Juvenile Affairs department has taken over the further investigation.
