A 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of raping his 12-year-old niece and illegally possessing ammunition. The case is being investigated by the Juvenile Affairs department.
Man arrested after months-long flight for rape of minor
Members of the Paramaribo Regional Assistance Team (RBTP) arrested 28-year-old R.W. on Thursday, 24 September 2026, police.sr reports. The man is suspected of raping his 12-year-old niece and illegally possessing ammunition.
The investigation began in early August 2026, after the girl's mother filed a report at Latour police station. The victim had told her mother shortly beforehand that her uncle had sexually abused her. When the mother confronted R.W. with the accusation, he fled and hid at various locations to avoid arrest.
After extensive analysis by the intelligence service, the RBTP was able to locate and arrest the suspect. Agents found a number of live ammunition rounds during the arrest, which were seized. After consultation with the Public Prosecutor's Office (OM), R.W. was remanded in custody. The Juvenile Affairs department will take over the further investigation.
