Mix-up at Geyersvlijt police station: suspect returns voluntarily

Cicilson J.R. reported to police on Monday 19 October with his lawyer Derrick Veira, according to Waterkant. The man had been accidentally released five days earlier, on 14 October 2026, by the Geyersvlijt police station in Suriname.

The release was intended for a female detainee, Cicilson A.R., but the two were confused during processing. Both were held at the same station and share the same surname. How exactly the mistake occurred is not yet known.

Following discovery of the error, Surinamese police circulated Cicilson J.R.'s description internally. The man is suspected of violating the Narcotics Act and participation in a criminal organisation. The case has an international dimension: a foreigner has also been arrested in connection with the drug case. Cicilson J.R. is alleged to have committed the acts attributed to him under threat.
