The 24-year-old J.A. turned himself in on Monday 14 September 2026, accompanied by his lawyer, to the Criminal Investigation Service of the Paramaribo Region. This was reported by police.sr. He is suspected of involvement in a shooting incident at Manela Inn on Zwartenhovenbrugstraat, in which two shots were fired at a man with an illegal firearm in June 2026.
The victim was shot in his left leg. The suspect then left the scene of the crime. Preliminary investigation shows that the two men had had a quarrel several days before the incident. When the suspect encountered the victim again on the day in question, he opened fire.
The injured victim was transported by ambulance to the Emergency Department of the Academic Hospital Paramaribo (AZP) for medical treatment. After consultation with the Public Prosecutor's Office (OM), J.A. was remanded in custody. The investigation is ongoing.
