The Regio Bijstandsteam Paramaribo (RBTP) has arrested four masked men following an armed robbery on Riosiee Street, a side street of Frederikshoopweg. This is reported by surinametimes.com. The robbery took place at an apartment complex.
According to the preliminary investigation, the four suspects — JJW (22), DHV (32), TSS (26) and DVB (31) — robbed two persons and made off with necklaces, mobile phones and money. During the robbery, the rear tyres of one of the victims' vehicle were shot at. No one was injured.
Police succeeded in cornering the suspects' getaway vehicle at the intersection of Sagopalmstraat and Hoedenpalmstraat. Two suspects were arrested on the spot; shortly afterwards the two remaining men were apprehended.
During further investigation, officers found part of the stolen items, including a necklace, as well as a firearm. Both the vehicle and the weapon have been seized.
Following consultation with the Public Prosecutor's Office, all four suspects have been remanded in custody. The case has been handed over to the Criminal Investigation Division of Regio Midden-Suriname. The investigation is ongoing, and further arrests are not ruled out.
