Camila Ayelén recovered: Argentine who took her across border from Paysandú detained

Camila Ayelén, the 15-year-old girl from Paysandú reported missing since Saturday, was found on Sunday in Argentina in perfect health, according to montevideo.com.uy. The location was made possible thanks to cooperation between Uruguayan police and Argentine authorities, following activation of the Amber Alert by the Interior Ministry.

Along with the discovery of the minor, a 37-year-old man of Argentine nationality with whom Ayelén allegedly crossed the border from Paysandú into Argentine territory was detained. The individual had been expelled from the family home days before the disappearance.

A relative of Ayelén revealed that she met the detainee through an escorts website. The two maintained contact for several months, during which he asked her to start a romantic relationship, a request the woman rejected. Despite this, contact continued and Ayelén's family came to know him, to the point of inviting him to stay in Uruguay on 8 October.

During that same evening, the man was discovered embracing the adolescent, which prompted his expulsion from the residence at the request of Ayelén's father. On 13 October he communicated for the last time to inform her that he was already in Buenos Aires.

Sources involved in the case explained to montevideo.com.uy that there are clear elements of alleged sexual exploitation, which is why the investigation will continue to determine whether there are additional people implicated. The sources also noted that Ayelén's "timid" personality would have been a determining factor in her accepting the trip to Argentina with the detainee.

An additional hypothesis suggests that the minor may have been recruited through the video game Free Fire, where she would have received messages promising her a better life. When she left Uruguay, Ayelén carried only her mobile phone and a laptop.
