Agustín Cuello escapes from Inisa: wanted for multiple homicides, including killing of police officer
The 20-year-old escaped in the early hours of Tuesday from the Inisa centre on Avenida Belloni. He had already escaped in 2024 and was linked to the murder of sergeant Joel Rodríguez.

Escape in early morning: Cuello flees Inisa for second time
Agustín Cuello, 20, escaped in the early hours of Tuesday from the facilities of the National Institute for Adolescent Social Inclusion (Inisa) located on Avenida José Belloni, sources from the institution confirmed to subrayado.com.uy. The young man was confined for several homicides, including that of Sergeant of the Republican Guard Joel Rodríguez.
Cuello had committed his first homicide while still a minor, in La Cruz de Carrasco. On 17 February last year, whilst serving his sentence for that crime, he escaped alongside another 19-year-old inmate—also confined for homicide—when both left with officials for a sports centre in Canelones. That same morning, Cuello's companion was found dead in Maroñas; Cuello came under investigation for his possible involvement in that new crime.
Five months later, on 11 July, Cuello took part in the robbery of Sergeant Joel Rodríguez, near the Molino de Pérez, in Punta Gorda. The police officer was killed by a shot to the head with the objective of stealing his motorcycle.
The Homicide Department of the Directorate for Complex Cases captured Cuello following those crimes and he was returned to Inisa. However, the young man escaped from the institution again and authorities are intensively searching for him once more.
