A 26-year-old man was convicted as a co-perpetrator of two counts of computer fraud committed repeatedly and will serve 10 months in custody.

A 26-year-old man identified as Braian Nicolás Morín Maciel was sentenced to ten months in prison after being found guilty of two computer fraud offences committed in repeated fashion. The ruling was handed down by the Fourth Court, following completion of the investigation stage by the Lavalleja State Prosecutor's Office.
The convicted man, who already had a prior conviction for receiving stolen goods, must serve the sentence in a penitentiary rehabilitation centre.
The investigation was led by agents from the Department of Complex Crimes and allowed the dismantling of the criminal network of which he was part. In total, nine people were convicted for their participation in the organisation.
According to what was established in the investigation, some members of the group disseminated alleged attractive financial offers through Facebook and WhatsApp. Using fraudulent links and impersonating banking entities, they deceived users into providing their personal and banking details, causing them considerable economic damage.
