A passenger was sentenced following an incident in which she struck a member of the security forces in the face. The events occurred during a dispute between two female passengers in a collective transport vehicle travelling through the capital city.
The conflict between the two women began as a verbal argument that quickly escalated into physical confrontation inside the vehicle. Alerted to what had occurred, police officers arrived at the scene and chose to take both parties involved to police station number 15 so they could give statements about the incident.
Whilst that procedure was taking place, one of the detainees lost control and struck one of the uniformed officers in the face. The response was immediate: the assailant was placed in custody at once.
The case subsequently went before the courts, where it was determined that the accused had committed an offence of assault against a public official in the exercise of their duties. The judicial ruling established that she must serve a four-month sentence under a supervised release regime.
According to a report by El Observador, the sentence was imposed as the perpetrator of assault on an authority figure.
