Four arrested and weapons seized in two police operations in Montevideo
Police conducted two operations on Saturday in Montevideo resulting in four arrests, with firearms, ammunition and suspected drugs seized.
Operations in Nuevo París and Monte Caseros yield arrests and seized material
According to elobservador.com.uy, Montevideo police arrested four people in two operations carried out on Saturday and seized firearms, ammunition, money and a precision scale.
The first operation took place at the intersection of Carlos María Herrera and Emancipación in the Nuevo París neighbourhood. Officers from the Special Tactical Support Unit of Montevideo were following two people travelling on a motorcycle when both occupants, upon noticing the police deployment, abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. One was intercepted; the other entered a nearby house and managed to escape.
The detainee, a 17-year-old adolescent with an active judicial requirement, was carrying in a backpack a Glock pistol with the serial number erased, two magazines and 34 cartridges of 9-millimetre calibre. The motorcycle was also seized. The case was handed over to the Investigation Unit of Zone IV.
The Youth Prosecution Office of the 3rd Shift ordered the young person's return to a centre of the National Institute for Adolescent Social Inclusion (Inisa), ordered ballistic testing of the weapon and the continuation of proceedings.
The second operation was conducted at Monte Caseros and Quichuas following a report to the Unified Command Centre regarding possible gunshots in the area. Officers from the Mobile Police Response Unit of the Operational Zone II Headquarters arrested three men aged 18 and 19.
At the scene, a revolver, three mobile phones, cash, a precision scale, "plant material" and several packets of "yellowish substance" were found, the nature of which will need to be determined. One of the three detainees had an active requirement for a previous case.
The Flagrancy Prosecution Office referred the proceedings to the Drug Prosecution Office. The investigation was assigned to the Departmental Anti-Drug Brigade.
