A 23-year-old woman was shot in the right leg, whilst a 48-year-old man was hit in the left chest when they confronted robbers at a residential facility in the capital.

A pair of security force officials suffered gunshot wounds on the morning of Friday 3 July, during a robbery at a pensioners' home located at the intersection of Millán Avenue and Rodríguez Correa Street, in the Atahualpa neighbourhood of the Uruguayan capital. The officers had travelled to the scene after receiving a report of a robbery in progress and, upon arriving at the site, an armed confrontation broke out with the criminals.
The government ministry detailed that the 23-year-old woman has a perforation in her right lower limb, with an entry and exit wound. She is in a stable condition at the Police Hospital. The second officer, aged 48, has an injury to the left side of his chest, with a point of entry but no exit wound from the bullet. He underwent surgery at the Spanish Hospital, where he remains under medical care.
Following the incident, the area was cordoned off by a large contingent that sealed the perimeter of the block where the property is located. The investigation is being conducted by the Public Ministry, whilst the police institution is carrying out intelligence and patrol tasks in order to locate those responsible for the crime and the attack against the public servants.
