Two men shot dead in Montevideo: Tres Ombúes and Casabó
A 32-year-old man was shot dead from a motorcycle in Tres Ombúes on Saturday; hours later, another man aged 39 was murdered in Casabó.
Two homicides over a weekend in Montevideo neighbourhoods
According to elpais.com.uy, Montevideo's Police Headquarters announced on Sunday 13 September two homicides that occurred within less than 24 hours in different neighbourhoods of the capital.
The first occurred on the afternoon of Saturday 12 September at the intersection of Pedro Giralt and Gowland streets in the Tres Ombúes neighbourhood. The victim, a 32-year-old man, was with a companion when a motorcycle with two occupants passed by and its occupants opened fire with a firearm. The attackers fled immediately in the same vehicle.
Numerous alert calls reached the police reporting a gunshot-wounded man in the area. The victim was transported in a private vehicle to a medical facility with police assistance, but died as a result of two gunshot wounds to the back, confirmed by medical staff. The man had three prior convictions and previous investigative cases in the police management system.
The investigation of the case fell to the Fourth Shift Homicide Prosecution, which ordered the corresponding proceedings to determine the circumstances of the incident. The Homicide Department also intervened to identify those responsible.
The second homicide occurred during the morning of Sunday in the Casabó neighbourhood. The victim, a 39-year-old man, was in a house located at the corner of Sierra Leona and Bahamas streets when two individuals forced their way in and began shooting. Both attackers later left in a white car driven by a third person. Death was confirmed at the scene by medical staff. The police noted that the victim had four prior criminal convictions.
The Scientific Police conducted a scene assessment. The case is being investigated by the Fourth Shift Prosecution and the Homicide Department.
