Two homicides in Peñarol and Colón shake Montevideo in the same night
Montevideo Police are investigating two violent deaths that occurred between Friday 2 and Saturday 3 October in the neighbourhoods of Peñarol and Colón.
Two murders in Montevideo in less than 24 hours: one person detained and another case unsolved
According to reports from elpais.com.uy, Montevideo Police recorded two homicides in the neighbourhoods of Peñarol and Colón during the night of Friday 2 and the early morning of Saturday 3 October. Both cases fell under the jurisdiction of the Homicide Prosecutor's Office.
Peñarol neighbourhood: woman detained after knife attack
The first incident occurred on the night of Friday 2 October at a residence located between Pasaje A Solar 3 and Pasaje D, in the Peñarol neighbourhood. Police officers arrived at the scene after receiving an alert about a person injured by a sharp weapon and found a 46-year-old man with a criminal record dead.
At the scene, a 39-year-old woman, also with a criminal record, was detained and identified as the suspected perpetrator of the crime. A vehicle from the Emergency Medical Care Service (SAME) confirmed the death. The 3rd Shift Homicide Prosecutor's Office ordered the questioning of the detained woman and involvement of the Police Department along with Scientific Police. A 25-centimetre blade knife and items of clothing were seized.
Colón neighbourhood: shots fired from a motorcycle
The second homicide occurred at approximately 00:58 hours on Saturday 3 October, at the intersection of Andrés Yedros and Bonmesadri streets, in the Colón neighbourhood. Alerted by the Unified Command Centre following reports of gunfire, officers found the lifeless body of R.A.S., aged 37 and with a criminal record.
A neighbour reported hearing three detonations. According to her account, two people travelling on a motorcycle fired the shots and then fled. The case was assigned to the Homicide Prosecutor's Office, with involvement from the Investigations Unit of Zone IV and Scientific Police.
14-year-old teenager detained with arsenal in raid
In the context of an investigation into gunfire, personnel from the Investigations Unit of Operational Zone IV raided a property in the area of Camino Alianza and Camino Cibils. During the procedure, officers observed a 14-year-old teenager leaving the premises carrying a bag and a long gun. When challenged, the minor attempted to flee to an adjoining property but was apprehended.
At the scene, a Ruger sub-rifle type carbine calibre 9x19 mm without serial numbering, a Canik pistol with obliterated serial numbers, an extended magazine with capacity for 40 rounds, an air-powered pistol and dozens of cartridges of different calibres—.22, .223, 9x19 mm, .357 Magnum and .32 Auto—were seized. A package of compressed marijuana, precision scales, industrial tools, household appliances and a bicycle of uncertain origin were also confiscated. The case was referred to the Flagrancy and Juvenile Prosecutor's Offices.
