A court in Artigas ordered the arrest of Bruno Manini Ríos, son of legislator Guido Manini Ríos and Irene Moreira, as a result of a complaint filed by his maternal grandfather, Roque Moreira. The 30-year-old was accused of the alleged theft of cash, valuables and bank cards from the home of the complainant.
The precautionary measure was decreed by justice of the peace magistrate Hilda Margarita Toriani Lemos, at the request of the fiscal representation of First Shift in Artigas, headed by Nelly Beatriz González Galván, according to Montevideo Portal.
Police officers went to the family home in Montevideo, where they spoke with Irene Moreira. The young man was found in a property on Mahatma Gandhi esplanade in the capital and placed at the disposal of the courts. Before his transfer to the Artigas department, he received medical attention at the 5th La Paz Police Station in the Canelones department.
Bruno Manini Ríos works as an agricultural technician and took active part during the electoral campaign that brought his father to the Senate in 2019.
The episode generated repercussions in the political sphere. Lorena Quintana, who was part of the vice-presidential formula of Cabildo Abierto alongside Manini Ríos, publicly expressed her regret. Through her account on X, she lamented the mockery received and questioned the lack of empathy: "What happened to the supportive Uruguay, one of respect, of values, of helping one's neighbour?", she asked. "Empathy sank in the political sand. Sad", she concluded.
