A 31-year-old man was shot dead on Monday evening in the city of Toledo, Canelones department, according to montevideo.com.uy. The attack occurred at around 21:00 hours at the intersection of Hugo Méndez and Palmitas streets, when the victim was heading to his home.
According to a statement from the Canelones Police Headquarters, the shots were fired from a moving motor vehicle. Bystanders transported the injured man to a healthcare facility in the area, from where he was transferred to Pasteur Hospital in Montevideo. He died at approximately 07:30 hours on Tuesday.
Scientific Police personnel processed the crime scene and collected evidence. The Public Prosecutor's Office ordered analysis of surveillance camera footage and interviews with possible witnesses. The case was assigned to the Homicide Department and the Investigation Unit of Operational Zone II of the Canelones Police.
The perpetrators remain at large. Police reported that the victim had a criminal record for internal arms trafficking, drug possession, and aggravated bribery.
