A 39-year-old man died on Tuesday after being stabbed outside the National Police Headquarters in Montevideo, according to confirmation from police authorities and initially reported by Telemundo (Channel 12), as documented by montevideo.com.uy.
The attack occurred at approximately 15:00 at the corner of Uruguay and Río Branco streets. The assault took place during an argument, although the exact cause remains under investigation.
The victim suffered a stab wound to the chest and was urgently transferred to Maciel Hospital, where he underwent resuscitation procedures and surgery. Despite medical efforts, the man did not survive.
Police officers detained two people minutes after the incident. Security cameras in the area recorded both the assault and the perpetrators' flight, which facilitated their location. During the operation, uniformed officers seized a knife believed to be the weapon used in the crime.
The authorities are also investigating whether a third person participated in the incident. The two detainees remain at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor's Office and are expected to be charged in the coming hours.
