Montevideo Police Headquarters is investigating the homicide of a 37-year-old man that occurred on Tuesday in the La Paloma neighbourhood, according to reports from elpais.com.uy.
Residents of the area heard gunshots in the early morning hours and alerted 911. Later in the afternoon, police officers found the body in open ground near the intersection of Camino Cibils and Francisco Siti. The victim had a bullet impact wound to the face.
Four 9mm shell casings were found at the scene. A mobile emergency unit attended the location and medical personnel confirmed death. The Zone IV Investigation Department identified that the man had a criminal record.
The Forensic Technical Institute will carry out an autopsy, whilst Scientific Police will conduct further tests by order of the 2nd Shift Homicide Prosecution. The investigation was placed under the direction of the Complex Facts division of the Homicides Department.
Second homicide in Toledo, Canelones
Hours earlier, another man lost his life in Toledo, Canelones department. According to witnesses interviewed by the departmental police headquarters, the victim—31 years old—was shot when he arrived at his residence in the vicinity of Hugo Méndez and Palmitas.
Civilians transported him alive to a private hospital, from where he was transferred to Hospital Pasteur. With multiple wounds, his death was confirmed on the morning of Tuesday.
The victim had several criminal records for internal arms and ammunition trafficking, possession of narcotics, and bribery.
