Man charged with murder in death of female partner beaten in La Aguada
A 73-year-old man who maintained a romantic relationship with a 65-year-old woman found dead on 26 May in her home in the La Aguada neighbourhood of Montevideo has been charged with murder by the court. The victim bore signs of violence and blows to various parts of her body.
According to El Observador, police had detected contradictions in the statements the accused gave about his whereabouts during the morning of the crime. The man claimed he left the house at 07:00 to attend a medical appointment, but investigations revealed inconsistencies in that account.
Homicide prosecutor Eduardo Rachetti conducted the charging hearing. During the hearing, the magistrate ordered preventive detention of the accused for a period of 120 days while the investigation continues.
The woman's body was found inside the house both shared in the La Aguada area. Initial inquiries pointed from the start towards the deceased woman's partner, which ultimately led to the formal charge.
