Montevideo police chief confirms regional coordination amid organised crime expansion
Police Commissioner Alfredo Clavijo acknowledged ongoing cooperation with Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay following raids in Marconi and Villa Española.

Montevideo police intensify operations and affirm coordination with neighbouring countries
According to telenoche.com.uy, Alfredo Clavijo, head of Montevideo Police, stated on Thursday that the force maintains "permanent cooperation" with intelligence and investigation units from Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and other countries, in the context of regional organised crime expansion.
The statements came following raids carried out in recent hours at police stations 17 and 13, which cover the neighbourhoods of Marconi and Villa Española, sites of violent incidents recorded days earlier.
"When there are these types of actions, as there are being in other neighbourhoods, our response will be immediate," Clavijo said, whilst also thanking the Public Prosecution Service and the courts for their cooperation in the proceedings.
The police chief was specifically asked about possible links between local organised crime and that in other countries, following the murder in Buenos Aires of Uruguayan Andrés Migales, who had a criminal record in Uruguay and was reportedly connected to a family clan operating in the country.
"He is a Uruguayan who was executed in Argentina, who also has a criminal record in our country, and who would be linked to a family clan that was operating in Uruguay," Clavijo said. "This is being analysed."
The commissioner indicated that operations will continue during the week. "We need to keep ourselves active," he noted, emphasising the need to process available information, coordinate with the Public Prosecution Service and "send clear messages to these groups".
