Aerial pursuit in Plácido Ellauri ends with arrest and toy weapon
According to montevideo.com.uy, a 19-year-old was detained by Montevideo Police following a pursuit in the Plácido Ellauri neighbourhood, after he attempted to flee through the courtyards and rooftops of residential properties in the area.
The operation began after authorities received a report of an assault on a woman at the intersection of Camino General Leandro Gómez and Avenida Don Pedro de Mendoza. The suspect, already sought for robbery, fled on foot.
Officers from Operational Zone V deployed a drone to track his location across the rooftops. The device allowed them to locate the young man, who was finally intercepted in the vicinity of Pedro Bazán and Leandro Gómez.
During the detention, Police seized two mobile phones that the man "allegedly discarded" in his attempt to flee. The object he was carrying and which was initially identified as a possible firearm turned out to be, according to authorities, "a plastic weapon".
