The Public Transparency and Ethics Committee received a complaint against National Party councillor Gonzalo Gómez over the hiring of Pablo Leiva, who was arrested and convicted of money-laundering linked to drug trafficking.

The Public Transparency and Ethics Committee (Jutep) received a formal complaint against National Party councillor Gonzalo Gómez, according to sources confirmed by montevideo.com.uy. The submission asks the body to assess the conduct of the councillor in relation to the hiring of his adviser.
Gómez's assistant, Pablo Leiva, was detained last Thursday during a police operation in the Brazo Oriental neighbourhood of Montevideo. Days later, he was convicted of money-laundering linked to drug trafficking.
Gómez is currently in China, taking part in a political training course, and is scheduled to return to the country on Saturday the 26th.
Separately, the police are investigating whether a branch of a debt collection network linked to the wife of former senator Jorge Gandini—current director of the National Port Authority (ANP)—was used as part of a money-laundering scheme.
