A police officer from the Tactical Reserve Group (GRT) of the Montevideo Police Department murdered his wife and her parents on Friday, 10 April, and subsequently took his own life, according to carasycaretas.com.uy. The events occurred around 19:30, between Colibrí passage and Hidra street, in the La Chancha neighbourhood.
The uniformed officer used his service weapon to carry out the triple homicide at the residence he shared with his partner. After committing the three murders, the man contacted his ex-partner, travelled to where she was with their son, said goodbye to both of them, and then took his own life inside an automobile, approximately ten blocks from the crime scene.
The body of the police officer, who had been with the force for approximately one year, was found inside the vehicle. The initial police report confirmed that the man lived in the house where the crime took place.
Homicide prosecutor Mirta Morales took charge of the investigation into the case.
