Two criminals assaulted a Redpagos branch located on boulevard Artigas and Nueva Palmira in the La Comercial neighbourhood on Monday afternoon, according to elpais.com.uy reporting based on a report from Montevideo Police Headquarters.

One of the men entered the commercial establishment and, by threatening a staff member with a firearm, demanded that she hand over money. Before fleeing, he also removed the security camera recording from the premises. An accomplice waited for him outside on a motorcycle, and both escaped on it.

Telemundo (Channel 12) reported, and El País confirmed, that the assailant was wearing a police uniform and took a large sum of money. Personnel from the Investigative Division and Scientific Police are working to identify those responsible, supported by cameras from the Interior Ministry.

In parallel, Police Headquarters is investigating another robbery that occurred on the same Monday in the Punta Carretas neighbourhood. Two armed individuals descended from a grey vehicle—in which a third accomplice remained—and confronted a 65-year-old man who was walking through the intersection of 21 de Setiembre and Ellauri, an area where a financial services establishment operates.

The assailants were wearing work clothing with reflective tape and face masks. After threatening the victim with a firearm, they snatched a bag containing U$S 11,000 and fled in the same vehicle.

The man was taken to a hospital, where he received medical care. Personnel from the Investigative Division are analysing security cameras in the area. According to Telemundo's reporting from the scene, investigators suspect that the criminals had prior information about the victim's movements and the money he was carrying.
