Army sergeant charged with homicide and drug supply following fatal accident in Las Piedras
A 40-year-old military member hit and killed a motorcyclist in Las Piedras, Canelones. He was travelling with three adolescents from INAU to whom he allegedly offered cocaine and marijuana.

According to teledoce.com, the courts charged an Army sergeant, 40 years old, with culpable homicide and aggravated drug supply after he hit and killed a 60-year-old motorcyclist in Las Piedras, department of Canelones. The man was driving against traffic in his car when he struck the victim's motorcycle.
The court ordered 120 days of preventive detention whilst the investigation continues.
Travelling in the vehicle were three adolescents aged 17, 14 and 14 who resided in a home run by the Institute for Children and Adolescents of Uruguay (INAU). The three had left the centre without authorisation. The two 14-year-olds later returned to the home; the 17-year-old remains admitted to an acute inpatient clinic.
The investigation indicates that the military member offered cocaine and marijuana to the adolescents. The 17-year-old tested positive for cocaine, marijuana and alcohol in tests conducted after the accident. The two 14-year-old adolescents, for their part, had consumed alcohol.
The results of the toxicological examination carried out on the accused have yet to be released. After the collision, the sergeant refused to take an alcohol breath test.
One of the minors, according to the investigation, shows "indicators of consumption and sexual exploitation". The accident was recorded by a surveillance camera.
