Lawyer hits police officers who were closing off-hours liquor store
According to lanoticiadebarinas.com, a lawyer identified as Marlon Maya, a partner in a liquor store in Ciudad Bolivia, municipality of Pedraza, was detained in the early morning hours after physically offending a commission from the Bolivarian National Police Force (Cpnb) that demanded the closure of the premises for operating outside permitted hours.
A video circulated on social media shows the moment uniformed officers approach Maya. His first reaction was to hurl a vulgarity at the officer who was explaining the reason for the procedure.
The officers asked him on several occasions to calm down, but Maya raised his voice, continued with the insults and began gesticulating at the agents. "Don't be so g…," he shouted, according to the audiovisual record. One of the police officers repeatedly asked him the reason for his conduct: "Why are you hitting us? Calm down," the officer can be heard saying.
Maya is also president of the Bar Association of the municipality of Pedraza, a position that did not prevent his detention. The Cpnb agents, who supervise alcohol sales outlets every weekend and ensure compliance with closing times, had no choice but to arrest him after he continued ranting.
The establishment, in which Maya was drinking as a partner in the business, remained open outside the legally established hours, which was precisely what the police commission was attempting to enforce.
After his arrest, Maya was handed over to the Public Prosecutor's Office, according to the regional media outlet.
