Four police officers were placed in custody in the state of La Guaira after being discovered taking money from the remains of buildings that collapsed due to seismic movements recorded in the coastal region.

The official CICPC publication shared a statement on social media platform X in which it assured that the improper conduct of the officers would not be tolerated. They also released a video recording showing one of those implicated.

Diosdado Cabello, head of the Interior Ministry, addressed the incident on his Telegram account via a voice message. There he specified that the public servants had already been removed from their posts for tarnishing the reputation of the institution and emphasised that prosecution would be carried out without leniency.

According to what was published by Euronews and reported by Maldita.es, the incident took place in the Vallarta housing complex in Playa Grande. One of the officers was captured on video with a bag full of one-hundred-dollar banknotes, which he allegedly extracted from damaged residential units. The approximate amount of the haul is around ten thousand dollars.
