Families of five young people who died in Caracas filed a civil lawsuit in the United States against Nicolás Maduro, accusing him of having authorised the murders committed by Venezuelan police officials.

In a United States court, relatives of five young people executed in the Venezuelan capital initiated legal proceedings against Nicolás Maduro. The plaintiffs maintain that the politician issued the order for state agents to commit these crimes.
The case of one of the deceased, known as "John Doe 3", dates from 2017. On that occasion, security personnel entered a home and killed the young man before the eyes of his mother, according to documentation by Noticias RCN, which cites an investigation by The New York Times.
The family members are receiving advice from Guernica 37 Centre, an international non-profit legal entity. A litigation officer from the group explained to the New York publication that the objective is to obtain financial compensation for the damages suffered.
The filing comes at a time when Maduro remains in custody at a Manhattan prison, where he faces charges related to alleged narco-terrorism.
