Mother demands answers from Ecuador for son detained in Venezuela
Yajaira García, mother of merchant José Faustino Hermoso García, 43, filed a public complaint against Venezuelan authorities from Ecuador, according to ntn24.com. Her son has been deprived of liberty for 40 days in conditions she describes as torture.
García directly held Vice President Delcy Rodríguez responsible. "I hold her responsible for the health, for the life of my son José Faustino Hermoso García, who has nothing to do with what they are accusing him of," the woman stated.
According to her testimony, José Faustino was detained along with a work colleague. The latter was released the following day under threats, while the merchant was transferred from Caracas to Maracaibo. The mother indicated that her son remained missing until 6 May, the date on which he was presented so that, according to her, he would accept false charges.
The family home was also subjected to a raid. "They raided my house looking for something. What? I don't know, because they didn't find anything," García said.
The woman stated that she had gone into debt to send her son basic supplies and expressed fear for his life. "I'm panicked, really. I don't want what happened to the other boys to happen to my boy," she said.
García questioned the distance between the regime's official discourse and what, according to her, is actually happening. "One thing is what the woman says and another thing is what they do and what is actually happening in Venezuela," she noted, before reiterating her conviction about her son's innocence: "I know who my son is. My son is a healthy boy."
