Woman investigated for crime in Áncash dies in bus rollover in Venezuela

A woman investigated in Peru for her alleged participation in the murder of journalist and regional candidate Susy Aponte Polo died together with her 6-year-old daughter in a traffic accident that occurred on 30 September on the General José Antonio Páez motorway in Portuguesa state, Venezuela. This is reported by elpitazo.net, which identified the deceased through the passenger list of the crashed bus.

Venezuelan authorities registered the woman as Beangel Toro Montecinos, 18 years old, according to the passenger list of the vehicle. However, Peruvian authorities and media, including the newspaper La República, identify her as Alexandra Toro Montezuma and point to her as a member of the group investigated for the murder of Aponte Polo.

The vehicle, an Encava Kamaz brand bus belonging to the Ruteros de Venezuela line which covered the San Cristóbal-Maracay route, hit a roadside barrier and overturned in the Tierra Buena sector, Guanare municipality. The accident left three dead and 15 injured.

Among the injured is Adrián Azuaje Solís, 23 years old, identified on the list as Adrián Solís. According to Peruvian police reports cited by La República, Azuaje Solís is identified as the organiser of the operation and would have been the one who contacted the hitman to carry out the attack. Venezuelan authorities indicated that Azuaje Solís fled after the accident in which his partner and her daughter lost their lives.

Susy Aponte Polo, known as "China Polo", was shot dead on 19 September during campaign activities in the vicinity of a market in Caraz, in Áncash region. The investigation by Peru's National Police and the Public Ministry points to a group of Venezuelan citizens who arrived in Caraz days before the crime.

Security cameras at a hostel recorded Luis Obispo Díaz—identified as the alleged perpetrator of the murder—alongside Azuaje Solís, Alexandra Toro and another man known as "Morocho". According to the investigation, Alexandra Toro and Azuaje Solís would have carried out surveillance and operational support work to locate and track the candidate before the attack.

Following Aponte Polo's murder and the capture of Obispo Díaz, Alexandra Toro and Azuaje Solís left Peru headed for Venezuela. Both travelled from San Cristóbal to Maracay together with Alexandra's daughter. The coincidence between the data on the passenger list of the crashed bus and the identity of the woman investigated was reported in the context of the Peruvian judicial process.

Peru's National Police would have also corroborated information about Alexandra's links to officers of the Bolivarian National Police. Azuaje Solís is from Guárico, according to police reports.

A Peruvian court ordered 18 months of preventative prison for Luis Obispo Díaz and Ronald Toro Ardila, both investigated for the murder of Aponte Polo. The Public Ministry attributes to Obispo the physical execution of the attack and identifies Ronald Toro as the alleged financier of the crime.
