Key suspect in China Polo murder could not be extradited from Venezuela
Adrián Solís, implicated in the homicide of Susy Aponte Polo, fled to Venezuela, a country whose Constitution prohibits the extradition of its nationals.

Venezuelan Constitution would shield coordinator of China Polo crime
Adrián Azuaje, also known as Adrián Solís, one of those implicated in the homicide of Susy Aponte Polo—known as "China Polo"—escaped from Peru to Venezuela with his partner Beángel Toro. According to noticiastrujillo.pe, the repatriation of Solís would be practically impossible due to a constitutional impediment.
Penalist lawyer Luis Gutiérrez Oliva warned on the programme Contracorriente that Article 69 of the Venezuelan Constitution expressly prohibits the extradition of the country's citizens. "They will not be able to extradite him no matter how much Peru submits its request," the lawyer asserted.
Beángel Toro and his daughter died in a road accident after crossing the border, while Solís was wounded and managed to escape from the hospital where he was receiving care.
The relevance of his capture lies in his alleged role as coordinator of the crime: Gutiérrez Oliva noted that Solís would know the identity of whoever financed the murder, although he estimated that he would not reveal that information for fear of reprisals against his life.
The lawyer indicated, however, that Venezuelan authorities have the power to investigate and interrogate Solís in their own territory, and that he could request the status of effective collaborator under protective measures.
