Three Farmers Dead After Cutlass and Knife Fight in Baramita, Guyana

Three dead in fatal clash at remote Baramita farming camp

Kaieteur News reports that police are investigating a triple fatality at Aranka Village, Baramita, North West District, following an incident that occurred on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at approximately 09:30hrs.

The three victims — Joy John, 40; her husband, Amar Thomas, 38; and Tony Williams, 62 — were all farmers.

Preliminary investigations indicate that John and Thomas lived together at a camp in the area with their five-year-old son. Williams resided at a separate camp roughly 20 miles away.

According to investigators, Williams travelled to John and Thomas' camp, where an argument broke out between him and John. Williams allegedly struck John on the neck with a cutlass during the dispute.

Thomas, who was returning from his farm at the time, then confronted Williams. A further altercation ensued in which both men allegedly inflicted injuries on each other with sharp objects.

John was found motionless at the camp. Thomas was discovered approximately 50 feet away, and Williams was located around 100 feet from the camp along a nearby track.

Police ranks visited the scene on Sunday, September 20, 2026, and examined the bodies. John had a wound to her neck, Thomas bore a stab wound to his left groin, and Williams had a stab wound to the left side of his chest.

All three bodies were transported to the Baramita Cottage Hospital, where a doctor on duty pronounced them dead on arrival. The remains were subsequently placed in the hospital mortuary pending post-mortem examinations.
