Jason Hutch extradited from Lanzarote, faces organised crime charge in Dublin

Jason Murphy, also known as Jason Hutch (37), of The Paddocks, Clontarf, Dublin, appeared at a special sitting of Dublin District Court on Thursday evening following his extradition from Lanzarote, waterfordlive.ie reports.

Murphy, a son of Gerry "The Monk" Hutch, faces a single charge of facilitating or contributing to organised crime between 12 April 2016 and 29 September 2021.

He was flown back to Ireland on an Irish Government plane and arrested at Baldonnel Aerodrome shortly after 5pm. A Garda officer told the court he was subsequently transported to Clondalkin Garda Station, where he was charged.

Murphy arrived at the Criminal Courts of Justice complex in a convoy of Garda cars at around 6.39pm, with a small number of onlookers watching as the vehicles passed through the gates. He appeared in the dock wearing a dark blue T-shirt, a black jacket and jeans, accompanied by Gardaí.

When asked by Judge Conor Fottrell if he understood the charge, Murphy replied yes. He indicated he wished to engage a solicitor firm, but said they were unavailable to him due to the ongoing solicitors' strike.

He was remanded in custody to Cloverhill Prison, with the next mention of the case scheduled for 17 September.

Spanish authorities had arrested Murphy on the island on 8 April on foot of a European Arrest Warrant issued by the Irish High Court. His extradition followed a judicial process in Spain and was carried out by members of the Garda Extradition Unit and the Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation (GNBCI), with logistical support from the Irish Air Corps.

Murphy is the sixth person to appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice on charges arising from the GNBCI's criminal investigation. The Hutch organisation was involved in a deadly gangland feud with the Kinahan gang in Ireland.
