Jason Hutch extradited from Spain, charged with facilitating organised crime

Hutch son remanded to Cloverhill Prison after Spain extradition

Jason Murphy, 37, also known as Jason Hutch, was brought before Dublin District Court on Wednesday evening charged with facilitating a criminal organisation, RTÉ News reports. Murphy, whose address is listed as The Paddocks in Clontarf, Dublin 3, was extradited from Spain earlier in the day.

The charge relates to the alleged facilitation of a criminal organisation between 12 April 2016 and 29 September 2021. His extradition was carried out by members of the Garda Extradition Unit, the Garda Bureau of Criminal Investigation, and the Irish Air Corps.

Detective Sergeant Robert Madden of the Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation gave evidence of Murphy's arrest, charge, and caution. He told the court that Murphy was arrested at Casement Aerodrome on foot of a warrant before being transferred to Clondalkin Garda Station, where he was formally charged and cautioned. Murphy made no reply when the charge was put to him, Detective Sergeant Madden said.

Addressing the court directly, Murphy said he had been unable to secure legal representation due to the ongoing legal aid strike. He confirmed he understood the charge being put before him.

Judge Conor Fottrell noted that the nature of the charge meant the District Court had no jurisdiction to consider a bail application. He advised Murphy that he could bring such an application before the High Court if he wished.

Murphy was remanded in custody and taken to Cloverhill Prison. He is due to appear before the court again via videolink on 17 September.
