Red light offences spike in Kilkenny as disqualified driver caught in Irishtown

Ten motorists were caught breaking red lights in Kilkenny within a 24-hour period, kilkennypeople.ie reports, with one case already heading to court.

A garda source said one driver stopped in Irishtown was found to be a disqualified motorist. That individual now faces a court appearance in addition to the mandatory €80 fine and three Penalty Points.

"Breaking red lights endangers you and other road users," a garda spokesperson said.

In a separate incident, a garda vehicle was damaged in South Kilkenny last week while members of An Garda Síochána were responding to a call in Carrigeen. A person brandishing a hurley also attempted to assault a garda during the incident.

An Garda Síochána said it is aware of content circulating on social media purporting to relate to the attack.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Waterford Garda Station on 051 305300, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.
