A 29-year-old Tullamore man has been fined €100 and disqualified from driving for three years after pleading guilty to a drink-driving offence in which he recorded a blood-alcohol level of 228mg per 100ml.

A 29-year-old man has been disqualified from driving for three years after admitting to being behind the wheel while well over the legal alcohol limit.

Dmytro Stashkevych, of Clonminch in Tullamore, appeared before Tullamore District Court after he was stopped at Kilcruttin on 5 November last year. Prosecutors told the court the accused failed to signal at a roundabout and was swerving on the road, Offaly Express reports.

A blood test revealed an alcohol concentration of 228 milligrammes per 100 millilitres. A separate charge of careless driving was withdrawn by the prosecution. Defence barrister David Nugent said his client works as a general operative and is a father of two children.

Judge Andrew Cody fined Stashkevych €100 and banned him from driving for three years. On the defendant's request, the judge agreed to delay the start of the disqualification until 1 December. The court noted that Stashkevych was in receipt of legal aid.
