A 29-year-old construction worker has been charged in connection with a shooting incident in Balaclava, St Elizabeth, that left one man dead, the Jamaica Observer reports.

Kimar Robinson, of Oxford District, St Elizabeth — known as "Budshot" — faces charges of shooting with intent, possession of a prohibited weapon, and unauthorised possession of ammunition.

The incident occurred at approximately 3:40 pm on September 22, when members of the police's Area Fugitive Apprehension Team (AFAT) were conducting an operation along the Balaclava main road. Officers signalled two men on motorcycles to stop.

The men allegedly opened fire on the officers, who returned fire after taking evasive action.

During the exchange, Jowayne Salmon — known as "Mani" — fell from his motorcycle. A firearm reportedly fell from his hand at the same time. He was transported to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Robinson fled the scene on his motorcycle but subsequently surrendered to police. He was placed on an identification parade, where he was positively identified, and was thereafter charged.
