Trelawny judge sets deadline in Pops YG detention case

A judge at the Trelawny Parish Court has given police until 9:00 am on Wednesday to either formally charge entertainer Pops YG or release him from custody, jamaica-gleaner.com reports.

The order was issued on Tuesday following a habeas corpus application filed by his attorney, Donnovan Collins.

Pops YG, whose real name is Ansel Fairclough, has been held since Monday after being arrested at his Trelawny home. Police detained him on reasonable suspicion of breaching the Law Reform (Fraudulent Transactions) (Special Provisions) Act — commonly known as the lottery scam law — while he was livestreaming on TikTok.

Hours after the court's ruling, Collins disclosed that his client had been interviewed by police investigators.
