Forklift Operator 'Rat Poison' Remanded for Central Village Murder

'Rat Poison' McPherson Remanded, Gun Court to Hear Central Village Murder Case

Devon 'Rat Poison' McPherson, a forklift operator from Central Village, St Catherine, has been remanded and his case transferred to the Gun Court, jamaica-gleaner.com reports.

McPherson faces charges of murder, conspiracy to murder, possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorised possession of ammunition, and using a firearm to commit a felony.

The victim is 59-year-old higgler Ivan Smith of Tate Lane, Central Village.

On Friday, September 4, St Catherine Parish Court Judge Genetta Smikle ordered McPherson's remand and transferred the matter to the High Court's jurisdiction.

According to allegations, at around 10:00 a.m. on August 18, Smith was standing near a shop on Tate Lane when two armed men approached and shot him repeatedly. Smith fled but collapsed inside a nearby unfinished building. The gunmen escaped on foot.

Police were called to the scene and Smith was taken to the Spanish Town Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

An investigation led to McPherson's arrest and charge on August 28. His alleged accomplice has not yet been apprehended.
