The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has opened an inquiry into the fatal shooting of two unidentified men during a police operation in Mandeville, Manchester, on Monday morning, jamaica-gleaner.com reports.

At around 6:40 am, officers from the Area Three Headquarters and the Manchester Police Division launched the operation after receiving a tip that men travelling in a silver Toyota Axio had threatened a person with an illegal firearm.

A vehicle matching the description was spotted along Old Greenvale Road in Mandeville. As officers moved to intercept the car, they reportedly came under gunfire from its occupant or occupants.

The officers returned fire and brought the vehicle to a stop. A subsequent search of the car led to the seizure of a Smith & Wesson MP rifle.
