St James constable faces murder charge after fatal shooting during water dispute

A police constable accused of killing his sister's neighbour during a domestic dispute in St James has been granted $1 million bail, jamaica-gleaner.com reports.

Constable Randy Campbell, 37, appeared in the St James Parish Court on Wednesday in connection with the April 29, 2025, fatal shooting of a man identified only as Kyron, and the wounding of a second man.

Prosecutors allege that Campbell stepped into an ongoing dispute between his sister and Kyron over water flow on their adjoining properties. During the confrontation, Kyron was joined by a friend who attempted to photograph the licence plate of Campbell's nearby parked vehicle.

The prosecution further alleges that Campbell then drew his service firearm and shot Kyron, who later died from his wounds. The second man sustained gunshot injuries in the same incident.

Campbell, in a written statement provided shortly after the shooting, claimed the two men had attacked him first. The confrontation is said to have taken place in the yard of Campbell's sister.

He faces charges of murder and illegal shooting. Represented by King's Counsel Peter Champagnie, Campbell was released on bail subject to strict reporting conditions.

His next court appearance is scheduled for April 29, 2027, at the St James Parish Court.
