Flight attendant held at Kingston airport with cocaine worth $2.9m

Jamaica-gleaner.com reports that Troy Ingleton, 49, a dual citizen of Jamaica and the United States, was charged on Wednesday after cocaine weighing 3.4 kilogrammes — with an estimated street value of $2.9 million — was found concealed in his luggage at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston.

The alleged seizure took place on Monday at approximately 8:00 a.m., as Ingleton was preparing to board a JetBlue Airways flight bound for New York. Routine security screening detected anomalies in his baggage, prompting personnel from the Firearm and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID) to conduct a detailed search.

Officers found a pouch containing two rectangular packages of cocaine, weighing 3.4 kilogrammes or 7.5 pounds, inside his luggage. Ingleton was taken into custody shortly after.

He has been charged with possession of cocaine, dealing in cocaine, attempting to export cocaine, and conspiracy to export cocaine. The police say further charges are pending.

Following his arrest, FNID investigators carried out a follow-up operation at his Kingston residence. A search of the premises yielded a licensed nine-millimetre pistol and more than 120 rounds of ammunition.

Ingleton is scheduled to appear before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Tuesday, October 20.
