St Andrew stabbing suspect released on $500,000 bail

Keimo McKenzie, charged with the murder of construction worker Shacquille Johnson, was granted $500,000 bail in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Friday, jamaica-gleaner.com reports. Senior Parish Court Judge Alicia McIntosh presided over the mention of the matter.

Defence attorney Earl Hamilton argued that McKenzie had acted in self-defence, had himself sustained injuries during the incident, and posed no flight risk. Hamilton further indicated that his client intends to contest the charge.

Bail was granted on condition that McKenzie surrender his travel documents and return to court on February 2, 2027.

Johnson, a construction worker, died following an altercation with McKenzie along Montclair Drive in St Andrew in June. According to allegations, the two men became involved in an argument at around 10 a.m. on June 28 that escalated into a physical confrontation in which knives were reportedly used. Both men suffered stab wounds and were transported to the University Hospital of the West Indies, where Johnson later succumbed to his injuries. McKenzie was subsequently charged with murder.
