A man was shot and killed during a joint police-military operation in Seaford Town, Westmoreland, shortly after 3 a.m. on Friday, jamaica-gleaner.com reports. The deceased has been identified by the aliases 'Pepper' and 'Jordan'.
Police say a firearm was recovered at the scene following the shooting. Investigators from the Independent Commission of Investigations have been deployed to the area.
Residents, however, claim the man was shot in cold blood inside his home while his children were present — a version of events that contrasts with the official account.
The incident adds to a rising toll: as of September 16, security forces had killed 217 people this year, including 19 in September alone.
