Man Shot Dead by Police in Bog Walk, St Catherine — Uzi Recovered

Dywane Edwards killed in early-morning police operation in St Catherine

A 35-year-old man was fatally shot by police during an early-morning confrontation in High Mountain district, Bog Walk, St Catherine, on Wednesday, jamaica-star.com reports.

The deceased has been identified as Dywane Edwards, also known as 'Night Time', a resident of the area. Police recovered a loaded Uzi submachine gun from him following the incident.

According to police, a team was deployed to the area at around 5:00 a.m. to conduct an operation. Officers entered a premises and approached a one-room dwelling occupied by Edwards, who was suspected of being in possession of illegal firearms.

As officers drew near, Edwards allegedly pointed a gun at the police party and opened fire. The officers took evasive action and returned fire.

Edwards was struck during the exchange and fell clutching a loaded firearm, police said. He was transported to Linstead Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Independent Commission of Investigations has been called in to probe the matter.
