The Jamaica Observer reports that police in Manchester seized a large cache of firearms following a shootout with an armed suspect near the New Green roundabout in Mandeville on Sunday afternoon.

At approximately 1:30 pm, officers intercepted a Toyota Premio motor car a short distance from the roundabout. The driver fled on foot and opened fire on police. During the exchange of gunfire, the man was struck and injured. He ran from the scene before collapsing on the hard shoulder of the Winston Jones Highway and was subsequently transported to hospital for treatment.

Residents told authorities that a woman and two children had been in the suspect's vehicle and were removed unharmed.

Police cordoned off the area, with motorists diverted along alternative routes through Kendal Road, Sugar Research, Ingleside, Hanbury, and Caledonia Road to Williamsfield via Royal Flat.
