Manchester father charged in suspected reprisal killings over daughter's death
The Jamaica Observer reports that a 37-year-old Manchester man has been charged with conspiracy to murder in connection with the deaths of two men in the parish last March — killings investigators believe were carried out in revenge for the fatal shooting of his four-year-old daughter.
Kumar Obrien, known as 'Frazzle', of Melrose Drive, Land Settlement, is accused of conspiring with others to kill Yakieni Shaw, 29, a farmer from Comfort District, and Damien Edwards, 21, of Melrose Gardens, Williamsfield. Both men were shot dead at approximately 3:50 pm on Saturday, 14 March 2026.
According to the Mandeville Police, the double killing is believed to be a reprisal for the shooting death of Obrien's daughter, Saniyah Obrien, on Sunday, 8 February. She was killed while seated with her father in his Voxy motor car in the parish.
Shaw was also known as 'Yankee'; Edwards went by 'Damie'.
Investigators apprehended and interviewed Obrien following a dedicated investigation, after which he was formally charged. He is scheduled to appear before the Manchester Parish Court on Wednesday, 21 October.
