MP meets Indecom leadership after Red Hills Road fatal shooting

Delano Seiveright, Member of Parliament for St Andrew North Central and minister of state in the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce, met with senior Independent Commission of Investigations (Indecom) officials on Monday over the fatal police shooting of a constituent, the Jamaica Observer reports.

Indecom Commissioner Hugh Faulkner was among the officials present at the meeting, held at the commission's New Kingston headquarters, according to a release from Seiveright's office.

On September 16, police fatally shot 35-year-old Shane Cassaonor on Karl Samuda Avenue — commonly known as Black Ants Lane — off Red Hills Road. The killing triggered protests and roadblocks along Red Hills Road, prompting Seiveright to intervene directly with residents and officers to restore calm.

Seiveright called for a thorough, impartial and timely investigation and urged eyewitnesses or anyone holding video footage or other relevant information to come forward.

"The family and community want justice. I strongly encourage witnesses to cooperate with Indecom. Anyone who witnessed or have relevant information will be fully protected," Seiveright said.

He added that he would continue to closely monitor the progress of the investigation.
