A former Jamaica Constabulary Force officer was sentenced to 22 years and six months in prison on Friday for the manslaughter of his 20-year-old girlfriend, jamaica-gleaner.com reports.

Patrick Walters, 24, shot and killed D'Jonnay Graham on June 25, 2025, at her home in Richmond, St Mary, during a dispute that reportedly began after she received a phone call. He was also handed a concurrent sentence of 20 years and three months for using a firearm to commit a felony. Justice Tara Carr ordered both terms to run concurrently.

Walters had originally faced a murder charge but pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the St Mary Circuit Court. The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions had directed the murder charge on July 17, 2025, following an investigation in which a file was submitted to the DPP.

According to evidence before the court, Walters was at Graham's residence at approximately 9:15 pm when the dispute arose and she was shot. Police responded and found both Walters and Graham with what appeared to be gunshot wounds. Both were taken to Port Maria Hospital, where Graham died from her injuries.

Graham's mother, Euon Douglas Graham, expressed strong dissatisfaction with the outcome. "We are not pleased with the sentence, because a murder him murder me daughter," she said following the hearing. She had expected Walters to receive at least 35 years and also challenged his account that her daughter had reached for his weapon during the altercation.

Walters was represented in court by Attorney-at-Law Donahue Martin.
